ASIBA has changed its name to the Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA), effective from the 1st May 2009. A new Web Site is being developed that will reflect our new direction. We are currently developing the new Web Site and hope to have it up and running before the end of this month. For the time being, we will continue to keep you informed of what's going on via the ASIBA Web Site. Our new Web Site will have the domain name -                      www.spatialbusiness.org.

ASIBA has responded to a number of important inquiries and activities. ASIBA submitted a proposal to Infrastructure Australia to encourage the Government to invest in spatial information and technologies within the $20 billion infrastructure funding promised prior to the election and the more recent funding provided under the stimulus package (download a copy here).

Asia Pacific Spatial Innovation Conference a huge success accoring to attendees.

Over 140 people  attended the inaugural APSI Conference and over 250 people attended the annual Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards at the Rydges Lakeside Hotel in Canberra on 18/19 November 2008. The break-up of attendees is: 54% business (both overseas and Australian companies); 45% were government, 12% were from the accademic sector.

However, the most pleasing statistics were from attendees: Day1 - 89% believed that the topics were relevant to them, while 82% said that the event was "value for money". Day 2 - 100% said the day's topics were relevant, and 80% said that Day 2 was "value for money".

Thanks to all who attended the Conference and Awards Gala Dinner - your support is appreciated. Many attendees - both private sector and government - reported valuable networking opportunities with decision-makers.

ASIBA lodges a submission for an Australian Spatial Data Infrastructure to Infrastructure Australia.

What is ASIBA?

The Australian Spatial Industry Business Association (ASIBA) represents industry interests on issues specific to spatial business – broadly, government relations and industry development. Since its emergence in July 2001, ASIBA has moved quickly to establish its credentials at both state and federal levels. It has assumed a significant role in public policy debate, enhanced the profile of the industry, identified opportunities for growth, and provided direct financial benefits to members.

What are ASIBA’s core values?

Uniting the business community – A strong and united business community achieves much greater success than individual members can ever achieve on their own.
Leading the way in the information age – Our members embrace innovation, seize opportunities and push forward the boundaries of capability and knowledge in our field.
Growing the spatial information industry – Our members grow personally, professionally and commercially in a business environment of ever-expanding opportunity.

Your industry voice

Spatial information is vital to business, government and community services. Our airports need spatial information to get planes off the ground. Our defence forces need it to protect national security. And our emergency services need it during crises such as bushfires. Not only is it important, but demands are growing. Users of spatial information today want detailed, accurate data available across the enterprise in real time to add value to analysis and decision making.

But how many people outside our industry realise this?

We must come together with a unified voice to influence and be involved in government processes. We need to raise the profile of the spatial information industry in government and the general community. And we should work together to take advantage of business opportunities and to advance the industry.

ASIBA is your voice.
