The Australian Spatial Information Business Association (ASIBA) was formed in July 2001. It has quickly established itself as the leading voice for the spatial information industry private sector. The following information will provide you with valuable resources and information about ASIBA and its organisation and activities.

Governance
The Association has adopted the Carver Model of Corporate Governance. For more information about the Carver Model and our Constitution and other Governance documents click here.

Structure
ASIBA is a National Association rather than the more common regional model that some associations adopt. The Association recognises the important role of the regions through Regional Management Groups (RMG) that are formed by local member firms to manage local issues and challenges. One of the clear advantages of a national structure is the cost savings that derive from a single corporate entity rather than eight state/territory-based bodies plus a national entity. For further information on the ASIBA structure select the header above.

Regional Management Groups (RMG) are formed by local member companies that believe there is a need to have a local presence to address regional issues. Networking opportunities is a functional role of the RMGs as is dealing with local political figures, the state and territory bureaucracies and of course local councils. For further information on RMGs, go to the Contact Us page on this website.

Board Members
A list of the current Board of Directors of the Association. ASIBA members elect nine members of the Board with a further two appointed by the Board as required.

Staff Profiles
ASIBA is a small association with limited resources. The activities of staff cover a wide range of services to members. Some staff are provided to ASIBA by other industry groups to suppliment our paid resources.

Submissions
ASIBA has a very important role within the industry; it is the voice of the private sector of the spatial information industry. The Association prepares submissions on a range of public policy issues at the national and regional levels and also supports such submissions with oral evidence to parliamentary inquiries and reviews.

The most current submission is on the Report by the Taskforce on Reducing Regulatory Burdens on Business: Rethinking Regulation, which is an Australian Government Inquiry. For further information and to see out submission and the final report click on Submissions above.
